The Official Ghost Medical 3D Animation Process

1.) Shot List

define the scenes and shots and types of animation that will explain medical products and procedures for the intended audience.

2.) Real Time 3D Animatic

Unlike most of our competitors we skip the storyboard phase and create a rough animatic because we’ve found this give our clients a better understanding of the final animation faster than attempting to draw each scene out with pencil sketches. Because they can be edited in real-time, we can save as much as several weeks to several months in the production process over traditional animation production techniques. We time this animatic to fit the script for the voiced narration perfectly from the very beginning.

3.) Model Rigging and Refinement

After the camera animation, basic object placement, and timing is established in the animatic, we optimize CAD models from our clients for their custom instruments and devices and rig them up to interact with our medically accurate anatomy models. The result is the accuracy of engineered devices and instruments and cinematic quality anatomy and pathology that helps the audience understand the procedure and treatment faster with greater clarity than any other form of media.

4.) Look Development

Look Development is established by rendering a key shots and scenes so that that client can see what the final animation will look like.

5.) Final Render

We render the animation using the fastest GPU rendering farm ever built. While it isn’t quite real time yet, we’re getting closer every day and we’re able to produce entire medical animations with photorealism and hyperrealism that our competitors simply cannot achieve.

6.) Motion Graphics Compositing

We combine all the 3D rendered layers together and add additional information like text callouts and superimposed graphics elements to help audience comprehension.

7.) Sound Design

We then combine the voiced narration, sound effects and music to create a polished final movie.

8.) Finalized Animation

We deliver the completed animation in a pristine 4k movie file along with a complete library of additional video formats that can be instantly shared on social media outlets.

It is important to note that Ghost Medical has developed a proprietary 3D animation process that is highly specialized to create computer generated medical animation. We’ve spent the last 30 years refining this process and building the anatomy and pathology 3D models and rendering technologies required to accurately and efficiently visualize incredibly complex medical procedures and biological concepts.

The production methods developed by Ghost Medical vary different from those used by our competitors and this is how we produce significantly higher quality animation in significantly less time.

For instance, most 3D animation producers spend weeks drawing storyboards before building anything in 3D. We’ve found that we can deliver a better product 25% faster by pre-visualizing the animation as a real-time rendered 3D animation instead of creating traditionally drawn 2D storyboards.

We also deliver our draft animations to our clients using a revolutionary content markup and review tool called Frame. This allows our clients to draw right on the animation and record notes and instructions on as they watch the movie. Not only does Frame making content review fast and easy, but it ensures that every detail is logged like a checklist so that every single tiny issue is dealt given the attention it deserves.
