3D Medical Animation Studio, Ghost Productions, “Inspires Hope” for the Future of Cardiovascular Medicine

CLIENT: Dassault Systems / Simulia

In the business of 3D medical animation, we can always count on the engineering geniuses at Dassault Systems to not only amaze us with new technologies that ride the very cusp of possible and science fiction, but also to challenge us to find ways to explain and market these technologies. Their software products are nothing short of revolutionary. SolidWorks, just one of their many titles, completely revolutionized computer aided design and manufacturing so much so that 90% of our medical device clients now provide us CAD models from SolidWorks. As little as a few years ago, the vast majority used ProE.  Simulia, their division dedicated to the developing new standards in finite element analysis and frighteningly accurate simulations for engineering, brought in a new challenge for us with this particular project.

Charitable Fund Razing

Gray and blue apparently make up the standard wardrobe of team ghOstache. Nose-nuzzling shag will soon complete the look. Though it wasn’t intentional, it may be convenient that I was absent for this photo. I do not own any blue jeans.

It was more than the unseasonably warm weather that prompted many male Ghosts to arrive bald-faced at our studio this week.  The month of “Movember” is here.  Never heard of it?  Nor had I until a few days ago.  So here’s a bit of background info.  Movember is an international month-long fund-raising event that has blossomed since the 2004 establishment of the Movember Foundation in Australia.  Created by a small group of friends, the non-profit Foundation was formed to spread the visible appeal of the mustache while raising awareness and funding for the prevention and treatment of hidden illnesses like depression and prostate cancer.  Last year, the organization raised over $126 million for such causes.

Halloween Hijinks 2012

Written by:  Matthew Perrin
Resident Ghost Writer

With a name like Ghost Productions, you might expect us to take Halloween very seriously.  And you would be right!  At least, partially.  While many of us embrace this haunted holiday with unabashed enthusiasm, “serious” is far from the proper word to describe in-studio attitudes toward Halloween.  This was demonstrated when CEO Stephan Kuslich set camera and question to various costumed coworkers.

NASS Hysteria

For weeks now our blog has been abuzz about upcoming medical conventions, and our studio has been humming with the sound of myriad computer processors rendering the images and videos that our clients will use at these conventions.  You may be wondering what’s all the fuss about?  In a word: NASS.  Technically, it’s an acronym comprised of four words but, like SIGGRAPH, this trade conference carries a level of recognition and respect that belies its curious abbreviation.  2012 marks the 27th annual meeting of the North American Spine Society.  Each year, surgeons and device manufacturers alike flock to this meeting for a weekend of education, advertising, and networking.

3D Tech: Everything You Need to Know About the 3rd Dimension

3D Stereoscopic Technology

Stereoscopic_Animation

3D projection has advanced well beyond the red-blue glasses of yesteryear. For an example of how this technology can enhance medical animation, click on the image to view our award-winning video HEAL in stereoscopic 3D.

They’ve been around for decades: 3D movies that have been giving audiences nominal  “fly off the screen” thrills via the iconic 3D glasses with the cardboard red and cyan lenses that trick the eyes into perceiving depth where none exists. Throughout the ages, Ghost Productions has had an interesting experience with various 3D technologies that range from static holographic printing to glasses-free auto-stereoscopic projectors. Only recently has the display technology advanced to the point where we’ve felt good enough about the quality of the output that we began offering this as a standard service to our clients.

3D-C MVP – April 2012

Written by:  Matthew Perrin

Welcome to the ghOst Productions official blog!  Our inaugural post strikes a celebratory note by recognizing the dedication and sacrifice that our team members often make to ensure that our projects move forward in the most timely fashion, without compromising quality.  In the industry of medical animation, attention to detail is critical and production schedules are often tight.  To keep everything running smoothly, we all need to put in extra hours once in a while.  Some put in more than others, especially in our production department: 3D-C.  We didn’t want that hard work overlooked, so we decided to honor the “most valuable player” in 3DC.  This month’s deserving recipient of that title is Bret Farley!
